Chief Willie Obiano’s Influence and Legacy

An Appraisal of the Governor’s Speech at the High Level Segment of the United Nation General Assembly.
By far, the greatest and most important testimony is the one spoken of by the people who are the benefactors. That is why it has become appropriate to positively appraise the recent address of Governor Willie Obiano at the high level segment of the 72nd session of the UNGA.
The Governor gave a brief rundown of his administration programmes and policies in a simple manner that glorifies the entrepreneurial spirit of the average Anambra citizen, to an elated international audience.
This address is very timely, just couple of months away from the gubernatorial election, where the people will have to choose either continuity or irredentism.
The Governor’s textbook address was actually a direct marketing tool for soliciting foreign investors to Anambra State, as the simple presentation was anchored under four pillars which his administration’ economic Wheel Of Development Programme rest upon.
For example, the agricultural policies of the Governor date back to the pre-buhari and APC era that came with change; and as a matter of fact, it became a worthy project for emulation by other states Governors when just after one year in office, Anambra under Willie Obiano began exporting vegetables to the United Kingdom.

The former banker turn politician certainly knows how to address poverty and this he is doing by expanding the revenue base of the state while removing hurdles on the paths of the low income earners by suspending taxes for this category of people. A novel idea copied by other states. Also, the issues of salaries to civil servants which many Governments pride as achievements, the Obiano’ administration has made it a statutory duty which must be performed on time as the workers receive alerts on or before 25th of every month.
Anambra State is indeed in safe hands with Willie Obiano and this is a matter of fact not politics. A critical appraisal of his achievements reveals a government with a conscientious plan. Chief Willie Obiano high ideals, moral integrity and personal modesty has made him to inspire grassroots developmental projects like the ‘Choose your Project Initiative’ which create opportunities to every community to attract government project of great benefit within a financial threshold of 20 million naira.
In doing this, the governor has introduced another poverty alleviation programme as the communities are to choose the workers that will build the project. This is a wonderful innovation in community governance.
With a policy that directly encourages Agricultural development backed by a concerted effort towards aggregating accurate data, Governor Willie Obiano is actually laying a solid foundation that any one that comes after him will build upon but who is more qualify than him among the current contenders? Certainly none! As there is still much work to be done and only a qualified workman like the Governor has proved to be, can supervise the building of a solid foundation he has laid in Anambra State.
A special recognition of the economy of Anambra state will reveal the coherence of the governor’s four economic pillars and as a commercial centre, Anambra will become a truly Agricultural and Industrial state before 2020 when Chief Willie Obiano comes back for sure.
To characterize Obiano’s legacy is very easy and straightforward. It is a journey where every Anambraian will be empowered not just economically but also educationally to become self-reliant. Anambra under Obiano is one of the few states in Nigeria which is attempting to find its own local route to development instead of borrowing the ideologies of other states.
Having analysed the Obiano’s ongoing developmental journey with Anambra, it can be clearly seen that among other contestants, the present captain is more qualified, more experience and more trustworthy to be given another chance to steer the Anambra ship of state to anchorage. Anambra is surely in safe hands with Chief Willie Obiano.

You are the beloved of God, your head bowed, your height knelt. You speak for the Berom whose household was slaughtered and his huts razed by fire. You speak for the Christian minority, who are sandwiched between crushing hate and the devil's ire. You are the heartbeat of fainting hearts. You are Samson the crusher of the wicked. You are Gideon, a man of valour. From the small town of Akpugo, to the oil rich South South, you are the voice of the helpless, their toast...
